Maidstone Kent
Wakes Construction Ltd were successfully awarded an office conversion project for Caxton’s Chartered Surveyors. The project consisted of converting an existing office building in the heart of Maidstone High Street into two new flats. The existing building was constructed pre 1912, which consisted of a timber
frame structure, clay roof and wattle and daub façade.
The project required a full strip out of the existing offices and a detailed investigation prior to any structural repairs. Following the strip out of the building it became very clear that the timber frame had been subject to decades of wood beetle attack and wet rot decay.
Two floors of the building had to be completely removed as well as the front roof structure. The extent of structural repairs were extensive with positive input from structural engineers, building control and Wakes Construction Ltd. The building was transformed into a modern high quality permitted development.
The project being in close proximity to the public and directly above a active shop front ,Wakes Construction Ltd carried out the project with care and consideration to all involved, with Health and Safety being of a high priority.
The works included full mechanical and electrical installation with design input directly by Wakes Construction Ltd.
